Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Lifework Therapy Services different than other physical therapy providers?
We believe that physical therapy should not be performed in a group environment. Gyms and wellness centers, where people may exercise independently and unsupervised, are appropriate for the uninjured, healthy population. When injuries and pain are concerned, however, the patient should receive private, uninterrupted treatment, provided by a skilled professional such as a PT. Our highly qualified and caring staff will partner with you and your physician to develop and implement a comprehensive physical therapy and wellness program designed around your physician's orders and your personal goals.
Do I need a prescription from my doctor?
In the state of Alabama, most insurance companies will not reimburse physical therapy services without a physician referral. However, Alabama state law does allow patients to seek the advice of a licensed physical therapist without a referral from a doctor and this is how we’re able to provide a free consultation or injury screen (see below). Should you not have a referral, we will be happy to assist you in obtaining an appointment with one of the numerous physicians with whom we work. There are some instances when a referral is not necessary at all. These include those who are interested in fitness and wellness programs.
What is a free injury screen?
If you’ve got aches and pains as the result of an injury or seemingly without cause, you may make an appointment at any one of our locations for a complimentary screening. During the screen, a licensed physical therapist will spend a few short minutes evaluating you and listening to your concerns. Once this is done, we’ll provide you with professional advice on the best mode of treatment, whether that is rest/ice, physical therapy or further evaluation by a physician and then put together a course of action to help you get started.
What can I expect with my physical therapy treatments?
Physical therapists (PTs) are health care professionals who diagnose and treat people of all ages who have medical problems or other health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives. (www.apta.org) PTs perform a variety of interventions, including manual therapy, neuromuscular re-education and therapeutic exercise. Modalities, including ultrasound and electric stimulation may also be used as an adjunct to manual therapy and muscle re-education. At LifeWork Therapy, each patient receives 1 hour of uninterrupted treatment performed by licensed staff. Exercises are supervised to ensure correct technique and each patient is prescribed an appropriate home exercise program to complement what is performed in the clinic and facilitate a quicker recovery.
Do you accept my insurance?
We accept most major insurances and are currently in-network with the majority of insurance carriers. If you are unsure whether we accept your insurance, please call us at 256.502.8684. If you do not have insurance, we offer a self-pay rate and will be glad to discuss an individualized payment plan tailored to your needs.
How does billing work?
LifeWork Therapy is in-network with most insurance carriers. If you have insurance, the first thing we’ll do is verify your benefits and coverage so that we are able to determine your out-of-pocket costs. We will collect the appropriate amount at each visit and apply it to your account. We also submit a claim to your insurance company on your behalf. It may take your insurance company up to 45 days to process this claim. Our administration staff then reviews the processed claim and will let you know if you have an outstanding balance or a refund coming your way. Please contact us at 256.502.8684 with any questions at any time throughout the billing process.
